INTRODUCTION:

Uganda a country since attaining independence on 9th October 1962, has had more than a fair share of instability due to political intrigues, mutual mistrust, suspicion, greed and all sorts of human weaknesses. Resultant to these wide spread human suffering for Ugandan people, visitors and non-residents for in Uganda at different times has been witnessed. Political murders, state inspired abductions and killings reigning in Uganda for over 30 long and frightful years.

The chaos in Uganda was the main cause of death to several thousands of innocent Ugandans. This left a multitude of widows, widowers and an inestimable number of orphans. Over a million orphans is the most conservative number. As if this wasn’t enough burden to the people of Uganda devastating blow to the population.

It is considered more devastating since both parents perish leaving their offsprings on their own. With the breakdown of family and social fabric, such orphans have been found to be entirely on their own. Extended family system ha almost disappeared as each biological family tends to barricade itself within the confines of it’s small and merge resources. The survival and education of the orphans and the disadvantaged children has been left to compassionate voluntary agencies (NGOs) and to Government, which has more less done very little due to lack of resources. Many people have lost their employment with the restructuring of the civil service and privatization of National Parastals. This has led to a lot of handicaps in most families. Many children do not go to school due to rampant poverty (bearing in mind that Uganda is among the 20 poorest Nations of the world). Some of the basic need of such disadvantage children is education, medical, and domestic as well as caring for spiritual life. The number of disadvantaged children has grown from 25,000 to 35,000 who have been registered and more are expected to be registered. Because of this background, WOLICAMI is committed to continue this ministry (service) and is looking for more sponsors to sustain the Ministry.

The program targets individual families prospective primary sponsors of the children. This is because we believe there must be a social attachment between the sponsors and the sponsored child. It creates a relationship between the two parties where the child becomes part of the family sponsoring him/her. The relationship is generally strengthened through letters, postcards and photos from the child to the sponsor which the coordinating office towards to the sponsor from the child at a given period.  Direct contacts are highly encouraged. Cooperate sponsorship hereto is a system where the company/group/school may sponsor a child or a group of children in this ministry. The system is basically the same only differs where more than one person sponsors a child or a group of children in this ministry. Sponsors may be local or from abroad.

Prospective sponsors receive a postcard size photograph of the child and we appreciate a sponsor sending us two of her family photos (optional). One copy goes to the sponsored child while the other remains with the coordinating office.

The program is implemented by WOLICAMI a mission registered in Uganda initiated as an evangelistic/social/health/economical community development mission for social evangelism specifically for the disadvantaged families; widows, widowers, orphans, abandoned, needy children, infected and affected families youth and elderly.

The mission is coordinated by the Mission Project facilitator, and this desk handles all the correspondences, registration of children, contacts for sponsors’ and manages the whole program. The facilitator who is a social worker is experienced and is assisted by  a qualified Accountant, the ministry have extension workers to carry out the required visitations and detailed verifications of the beneficiaries and person to person welfare.

Every child must fill in a from and submit 2 photographs which the coordinating office forwards to prospective sponsors.

These have been classified and categorized as follows:

1.    Double orphaned i.e. an orphan who has lost both biological parents.

2.    Abandoned children. They are identified by the local authorities, collected and accommodated in our care centres. The morals dealt with and changed to fit society of people and provided with the necessary basic education to become self reliant and resourceful in future.

3.    Needy children: Both parents may be alive but too sick or poor to help them.

4.    Elder orphans and needy children between 13 -18 years old attend vocational training for job      creation possibilities or else a money generating activity if availed and visible, can be funded in a resolving fund approach.

5.    A guardian, a widow, a widower or affected and infected families are trained to manage a veiled small project to be able to their social problems and educate their children through resolving fund approaches to sustain this program.

The total sponsorship for a child through one year is approximately Ug. Shs. 510,000/= equivalent to US $ 300, per year.

Imagine a child or children facing a future of utter darkness, a future so clouded by poverty, hunger, disease and lack of opportunity that it contains no glimmer of hope.

Tragically, this is the same feeling that exists in hundreds of thousands of children in Africa and Uganda in particular. But when you sponsor a child through the World Light Caring Mission, WOLICAMI,  your bring real light into an otherwise hopeless situation.

To start with, you give the child the basics of life like regular meals, medical care, decent clothes and education. And you support development projects that help your child's community as well. You will light up the future - for a child or children facing nothing but dark despair.

For further information please contact the Facilitator Child Care Sponsorship Ministry. To donate / sponsor a child please print the SPONSORSHIP form, fill it out, and with your donation send it to the stated address. You can also opt for the HIGH DONOR scheme.

In the high donor program you can give from $10 per month or any amount to save the life of a child, to help poor people in income generating activities, provide clean water to the community, to create awareness for the protection of the environment degradation and EVERGREEN program where a member is expected to pay about $500 dollars per month. The sponsor will get a monthly newsletter concerning the above projects, t-shirt and a certificate for appreciation. To do this please print out the HIGH DONOR SPONSORSHIP FORM, fill it out and send it to the stated address.

We are also looking for volunteers to work with use for a period of 6 months up to 2 years in the fields of  Micro-Finance project, modern communication technology, Internet / computer training programme and fundraiser.
